Dear NYC ASM Members,
I am so excited to be in the midst of my NYC ASM presidency! I have big shoes to fill since our previous President, Esther Babady, has helped to facilitate tremendous advancements in our society over the past two years. We now have a Facebook page and a Twitter account, so if you haven’t already, please follow us. We hope that these social media platforms provide an easy way to stay up-to-date on hot Microbiology topics in the Big Apple! We have also made major changes in the design of the website to provide a simplified way to become members and pay for meeting registrations. Remember to check out the “Members Only” sections to see the Spring Meeting pictures, job opportunities, and we will soon be adding cases from our local laboratories!
As your President, I hope to continue to improve our website, social media presence, and overall communication with our membership. We are one of the largest branches in the country so I want to take advantage of all of the collective knowledge and ideas of our own Microbiologists! Please keep your eyes open for emails containing survey links because I want to hear from all of you on how we can continue to make improvements!
One of my favorite things about NYC ASM is the connections that I have made with other laboratory directors, technologists, and industry representatives. We face many new challenges everyday and the support and advice of others in our local network is critical. Whether its how to best handle sending specimens to the DOH for measles testing, assessing the impact of screening for Candida auris, implementing laboratory automation, or dealing with staffing issues, our collective knowledge can be used to guide decisions for our own labs and may also have an influence outside our hospitals to inform policy! This upcoming year, I would like to see these connections become even stronger.
Our Program Committee is hard at work planning the Spring Meeting. Please mark your calendars for May 15th and spread the word to any new members of your labs! I’m looking forward to an exciting new year!
